During our fellowship today, we touched the topic of sharing Gospel with people… and how “secular” things we do in our everyday life like hanging out with friends and building friendship could be part of our sharing (The Son of Man came eating and drinking… see Luke 7:34). And the part of “sharing life” really spoke to me, as it reminded and corresponded to what I’ve always believed: we can’t truly share without honesty.
Sharing our life with friends and family, doesn’t mean just joking and chatting on the surface. It also means being honest with what’s happened and what’s happening in our life, what’s our weaknesses and flaws. Our life doesn’t have to be a bed of dandelions on a sunny day. It could be a sea of roses – both with its flowers and its torns. And it could be a roller coaster ride with lots of ups and downs and turns – including those 360 degrees ones. None of those happened by accident. All of them can be used by God to bring out what He planned in our lives. I don’t believe we should be an open book which anyone and everyone can read whenever and however they want. We draw appropriate lines and protect our privacy. But it does mean, when people show genuine interest to us, we respond with equal sincerity and truthfulness (unless all reasons indicate otherwise…there’s not a lot of absolutes in this world, I believe). Honesty conveys integrity of one himself/herself and trust to the other person.
Give people the gift of your honesty, the world can do with a little bit more of sincerity and truthfulness =)
Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body.
